I'm a king, bee

Isn't this the best song to listen when getting ready for a party?

Cause it's snowing...

Fleet Foxes are a folk band from Seattle which I discovered a couple of years ago through my all-time favorite podcast Nialler9.

This song is amazingly cute and for some reason it makes me think of Christmas.

Fun Time!

The Poke is a humour site form the UK specialized in fake news, satire but also some quite cool stuff. Such as a collection of books funny covers (most of them being as real as it gets, they can be found on Amazon). The one which stood out for me was:

http://www.amazon.com/Gangsta-Coloring-Book-Anthony-Morano/dp/0867196041

Digging more I found out it gets much better as one can buy online the following:

Punk Rock Fun Time Activity Book

Heavy Metal Fun Time Activity Book

Indie Rock Coloring book.

Hell yeah. Electronica anyone?

Beware of pickpocketing. It's annoying.

After being stranded in Barcelona with no money or ID after having my wallet stolen (by my own people) I learned the following:

The whole bureaucracy thing is not so annoying, except that the Romanian consulate will charge you 65 Eur for a document that you can only travel to Romania with and Barcelona airport staff is convinced that you need a residence permit and an immigration office number to stay in Ireland (EU anybody?).

Mossos D'Esquadra (Catalan Police) 5 stars, Romanian Consulate 4 stars, Aer Lingus minus 10 stars, Barcelona airport people minus 100 stars, Dublin friends 20 stars, Catalan friends' families 100000000000 stars.

Dear fellow thieving citizens thank you for offering me 3 more days on the beach. I hope you choke on my 20 quid.

4th Amendament Wear

If you have an issue with the new security system that is beginning to take over the airports now it's time to protest against it.

Ride it like you stole it

Riding a sports bike in Berlin reminded me how good it feels to cycle and cycle fast. And fix your chain :) Btw Dublin when are you planning to get some decent cycle paths...or streets?

Forget Me Not

Tom Carauna, producer, rapper and label owner (Tea Sea Records) from Brighton presents Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles mash-up. One of the coolest albums I've listened to lately.

Uff, Facebook.

I'm wondering lately why is Facebook showing to other people that I used FriendFinder when I know I didn't. Do I have a memory problem or is Facebook evil?

Also how does the system choose which friends to show that are supposedly using Friend Finder? Are they selected randomly from my friends' list or does it choose the ones that I communicate to most often?

Confused...

Brian & Amy

A simple trip to the supermarket turned more interesting then I thought when my eyes landed on the newspaper stand. And there I noticed:

Brian & Amy

On the front page of every newspaper you had the same big title with the same big photo and the same story about the Irish wedding of the year. And I mean every single newspaper one can think of: the Times, the Independent, the Post, The Herald, the Examiner, broadsheets, tabloids, glossy magazines, even the goddamn crossword puzzles had the picture of those two the cover.

I've been living in Dublin for more than two years now and the only thing I can say is: Who the hell are these people?

Later edit: after a bit of asking around I found out that the above happy couple is a famous rugby player and his chick. And nobody in Ireland gives a damn except for housewives and.. newspapers.

Advertising helps me decide

...was written on a t-shirt I saw once.

However what is this ad supposed to mean?:

"chew gum for bigger boobs"

Seriously?

The power of the web

On April 19th 2010 Evelyn Evelyn - Amanda Palmer's new conjoined twin sisters project was coming to Dublin for a show. On the same April 19th a big ash cloud decided to drift over Europe in order to prove how helpless and small humankind really is. Point taken however due to the ash cloud crisis the conjoined twin sisters had to be split as part of the band remained stranded in New York.

With half of Evelyn Evelyn missing the Dublin gig turned into an explosive one-woman-show signed Amanda Palmer with Jason Webley singing from NYC on a live webcam. Yes on a webcam.

Cause Amanda Palmer went online, used Twitter to borrow props and cameras and tripods to make the show work and then called Jason on Skype. And besides a great hour of improvised crazyness we experienced a premiere of "Fuck the Ashcloud" (written together with Neil Gaiman over the web in the last 24 hours)

Isn't internet cool? And the show must go on.

My latest gigs. A list:

Cold War Kids - good energetic indie rock, "St John" makes you shout
Nouvelle Vague - I love them because they make me emotional. And because they're so feminine and French.
Holy Fuck - definetly the future of electronic music. I lost count of the number of keyboards/synths they trashed.
Flogging Molly - a friend of mine said that at the end of the concert his underwear was torn. Yes we love the mosh pit.
Roots Manuva - people say he's been hit & miss lately. True but I only saw the "hit"
Jape - I was looking forward to this but, man, he was a bit...boring?
One Little Plane - Indie pop made in London. She is lovely.
Tracy Chapman - if it wasn't for the goddamn drunk knacker Irish ladies besides me who kept shouting I would have loooved this concert.
Dan Le Sac + Scroobius Pip - they are the future of electronic-preaching-hip-hop music or whatever the hell they are doing. Amazing
Birdy Nam Nam - they can surely spin that shit. Should be careful with their drinks though and friendlier witht the crowd.
Buraka Som Sistema - kuduro electro beats and one hell of a show. Loved them.
Apparat - hello Berlin. Can I stay forever?
Mos Def - trouble with big gigs is that the crowd is always crap. This time I had to fight a bunch of Swiss kids trying to be gangsta. Nothing wrong with being Swiss but Zurich is NOT Brooklyn!
Still one of the best live shows ever experienced.
Zion Train - turn those speakers louder and get ready to dub, dub, dub!
George Clinton - everybody should see the Funk Master before they die. It's a crazy unique show.
Lee Scratch Perry - 74 years old and more alive than anybody I know.
Cocorosie - not sure if Sierra was mad at Bianca or the other way around but they just did not seem to like each other that night. Made the show more interesting though. Bianca was surprisingly quiet while Sierra went completly crazy dancing at the end of the show.

Coming: NAS & Damien Marley, Beirut, Sharon Jones and Melt festival. Wish me luck.

Blog me

Seriously the new template designer from Blogger sucks. It does give you a lot more space to play with things and create more personalized templates but, let's be honest, whoever has enough time and patience to fool around with colours and layouts uses Wordpress. Blogger is the user-friendly platform for not-so-savy users or simply people who want to click twice and get over with it.

And the new templates are just ugly.

"Not too much sun in this country, is there?"

Having to deal with the infamous Irish weather got me complaining about it all the time. I realize though that for my Irish friends this has to be as annoying as it is for me when people complain about Gypsies, corruption or Dracula.

I apologize.

About me

Traveller, biker, music junkie and night owl. Born in Bucharest now living in Dublin. My passion for the band called Cake will explain the nickname. I breathe Internet, honestly I do. I'm scared that I will go deaf one day and my world will end. I like people. I don't like politics.

This blog is about music, Internet and Dublin life through the eyes of a foreigner. Oh, and world peace.

Hello. Welcome.
